'An amazing person with a heart of gold' to be laid to rest following accident
The funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday) of a 20-year-old Navan woman who was killed in a car accident on the eve of Christmas Eve.
Amy (Winifred) Stokes died following a single-vehicle crash in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, on December 23 last. She was a passenger in the car, which crashed on the Ballyconnell Road shortly before 11pm.
Her bereft family has described her as "an amazing person with a heart of gold".
Amy lived in Navan, Co Meath, until the age of 11 years, before moving to Banbridge, Co Down and later to Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.
Amy was only recently married, having married her husband Damien in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ballyconnell on September 18 last.
In the young woman's death notice, published on RIP.ie, her family write: "She loved singing especially the song 'Young Reilly The Fisherman' by Deirdre Connolly, and also loved the song 'There Were Roses' by Lisa McHugh.
"Amy had an amazing voice and everyone loved to hear her sing. She truly will be missed, everyone loved her so much, she was such a big personality and was 'always the life of the party' as she would say herself.
"Dancing and listening to music were her favourite things to do, with a great love of getting out socialising with her friends who always knew she would lighten up the room, never failing to make her friends laugh, as Amy was always up for a joke. Life will never be the same without her as she is a massive loss to her family and friends."
Amy will repose in Lawlor’s Funeral Home Belturbet this evening, Friday, December 27, from 2.30pm untill 4.30pm with removal to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballyconnell, for prayers at 5pm.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday) December 28 at 11am. Following Mass, Amy will be laid to rest in Carrick-On-Shannon Cemetery.
The PSNI is investigating the circumstances that led to the collision. Detectives are appealing to anyone with information about what happened, or dashcam footage, to contact them.
