Funeral details released for Navan man killed in road collision

Funeral details have been released for man killed in Navan last Friday night after he was struck by a car while his family have thanked the emergency services who attended the scene.

Greg Lynch who was described as a "gentleman and a great character" died after he was hit by a vehicle at Poolboy Bridge, Flowerhill in the town at approximately 10.40pm.

The male driver (aged in his 60s) of the car was uninjured.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Mr Lynch's remains will be reposing at James Fox's Funeral home, Abbeylands, Navan C15PH6T on Wednesday 1st January from 4pm until 7pm. Arriving to St. Mary's Church, Navan on Thursday morning for 10am Funeral Mass, which can be viewed live on http://www.navanparish.ie/livestream . Burial afterwards in St. Mary's Cemetery, Boyne Road.

In a message on Rip.ie Mr Lynch's relatives said the family "would like to thank the Emergency Services, Navan Garda, and everyone who assisted and helped Greg in his time of need."

Mr Lynch was predeceased by his mother Brenda. He will be very sadly missed by his loving and heartbroken family, Dad Pat, sisters Joan, Karen and Gillian, brothers in law Ian and Farham, nieces Sophie and Ameera, nephews Billy, Conor and Essa, aunt, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Mayor of Navan Cllr Eddie Fennessy expressed his "deepest sympathy" to the family and friends of the victim.

"News of Friday night's tragic accident was met with sadness and shock. Even more so when the identity of the victim was made known.

"Greg Lynch was a gentleman. He was a great character who was well known and very well liked around Navan.

"His poor family must be devastated. I offer deepest heartfelt condolences from the people of Navan. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers.

"A number of pedestrians have lost their lives on our roads over the past few days. It's frightening. I ask motorists to drive with extreme caution especially at night and particularly in built up urban areas."
