Meath's latest millionaire has yet to come forward
Meath's latest millionaire has yet to come forward as Tierney's Nearby Store on Trimgate Street in Navan is celebrating selling the €1 million winning ticket in the Millionaire Raffle draw on New Year's Eve. Staff and customers were thrilled when the news was announced at the Tierney’s Nearby store on Trimgate Street, Navan, on Thursday last.
Joe Tierney, owner of the country's oldest family newsagents, was over the moon to start the year with a call from the National Lottery.
“I was thrilled to get the call that our shop had sold this year’s winning Millionaire Raffle ticket. Our shop is the oldest family newsagent in Ireland, across three generations. This year, we’ll be celebrating our 130th anniversary, so this win is an extra special celebration for us. We’ve had a few lottery wins over the years, but nothing of this magnitude – this is by far the largest.
“Receiving such good news on the first day of the year is wonderful, and the thought that everyone who bought a ticket is a potential winner is incredibly exciting. We’re looking forward to the buzz in the shop over the next while,” he said.
The National Lottery are continuing to urge Millionaire Raffle ticket holders to check their tickets very carefully from the New Year’s Eve draw as the top prize winner is yet to come forward. The winning ticket number which earned the top prize for the Meath player was 467908 and was sold on Christmas Eve, maybe as a Christmas present for somebody who hasn't checked their number yet.
The winner, who now has a ticket worth a life-changing €1 million, is advised to sign the back of their ticket and make contact with the prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie.
Meanwhile, a Meath couple claimed €500,000 on the EuroMillions Plus draw on a Quick Pick ticket purchased at Hannons Supervalu, Ratoath, on Friday last.
Speaking to National Lottery, they said: “We saw the news online that a ticket had been won in Supervalu in Ratoath, and thought to ourselves, we bought our ticket there – maybe it was us? We immediately checked the ticket online, and sure enough it was!”
One winner said: “I went back to the SuperValu to buy champagne – I couldn’t help myself. The person serving me said, ‘Did you hear we sold the winning EuroMillions ticket?’ I had to smile but didn’t tell them it was me!”.
Asked how they intended to use their winnings, they said: “This is truly a life-changing sum of money for us, and we could not be more thrilled. This means we can clear off our mortgage and finally spend our salaries on us! We have family in Australia that we’ll go visit and en route we’ll stopover in Thailand, somewhere we have always wanted to go, and spend some time there”.
