Summerhill secure sensational signing

Summerhill have made a sensational swoop to claim the transfer of All-Ireland SFC winner Shane Carthy from Dublin club Naomh Mearnog.
Rumours had swirled throughout the county of a big name signing by Summerhill and on 6th January Leinster GAA confirmed on their website the transfer of Carthy to the south Meath club.
Carthy is a five-time All-Ireland winner across three different age groups. He played on the All-Ireland-winning minor team of 2012, scoring three points in the final victory over Meath. Alongside him on that team were Niall Scully, Cormac Costello, and Eric Lowndes.
He was also part of the Dublin panel that won the Sam Maguire in 2013.
Another All-Ireland victory at u-21 level in 2014 came after a man-of-the-match performance by Carthy in the Leinster final, although he missed the final after being hospitalised with depression.
The midfielder/wing forward has battled with depression as he outlined in his book, ‘Dark Blue - the despair behind the glory: My journey back from the edge.’
More recently, the now former Naomh Mearnog man came on as sub in last year’s Dublin IFC final as his Portmarnock outfit defeated Clanna Gael Fontenoy in the decider.
Carthy was also part of the extended Dublin panel in 2022 and he played in the O'Bryne Cup that year.
Summerhill changed management for 2025 with Dave Clare - a former Kilmacud Crokes coach and manager of Celbridge and Lucan - taking over from Conor Gillespie who has joined Robbie Brennan’s Meath senior ticket.
Clare was previously part of the Summerhill management team for three years.
