Donaghmore/Ashbourne's Aoibhin Cleary has been announced as the new captain of the Meath Ladies senior football team in succession to Monica McGuirk.

Dunshaughlin Royal Gaels' Niamh Gallogly and Summerhill's Mary Kate Lynch have been named vice-captains ahead of the start of the new season which gets underway on Sunday 26th January with a tricky away trip to take on Tyrone.

Cleary has played for Meath at all age groups, making her senior debut in April 2016 against Kildare in the NFL and has played over 75 times since.

The Donaghmore/Ashbourne flyer has won many honours along the way including two All-Ireland SFc crowns, NFL Div 1, 2 and 3 titles, an All-Ireland IFC, an All-Ireland MFC and an All-star.

Her commitment and dedication is second to none and has time and time again proven to be the beating heart of the Meath ladies team.

Gallogly made her debut against Sligo also in 2016, scoring three points, and has made over 90 appearances for Meath.

The Dunshaughlin player also has two senior All-Irelands, an Intermediate All-Ireland and three NFL titles and she was an integral part of her club winning the county championship for the last two years.

Summerhill's Lynch broke through under manager Eamonn Murray after a successful spell with the minors where she played a pivotal role in securing the county's first Leinster MFC A title in 19 years.

Since progressing to the seniors she has been an ever present in the team since 2020 appearing over 55 times. She also has won two senior All-Irelands, an Intermediate All-Ireland and two NFL titles.
