Gratuity payments to former county councillors revealed
Former members of Meath Co Council who lost their seats in the local election, retired from politics or were elected to the Dail or Seanad are to receive gratuity payments.
Meath County Council has released the figures due to be paid following the recent local elections.
The former councillors do not receive a gratuity until they reach the age of 50, so several of those who lost their seats last year, will have to wait several years for payment. The gratuities are subject to tax.
The former councillors due to receive retirement gratuities following local elections in June 2024 are Elaine McGinty: €18,022.46 and Tommy Reilly: €90,299.66.
Former councillors who were in receipt of gratuity payments due to vacating their seats in the period between the 2019 and 2024 local elections are Johnny Guirke: €19,789.26, Sharon Keogan: €20,310.03 and Aisling O'Neill: €12,687.89.
Former councillors who were in receipt of gratuity payments between the 2019 and 2024 local elections are Wayne Forde: €19,453, Tracey McElhinney: €18,062, Brian Collins: €11,353.50 and Sean Smith: €19,232.93.
