The Moynalty u-11s girls after their match against Kilmainhamwood in the Autumn League.

Future looks bright for Moynalty Ladies

As the curtain drew on 2024 Moynalty LGFA took time out to reflect on what was a successful second year as a club. It is a fantastic achievement for a small rural club to continue to grow year on year.

Moynalty LGFA was established in 2023 with one under-9s team. In 2024, this was expanded to two teams who were put forward to play in the Little Ladies Spring/Summer and Autumn leagues (u-9s and u-11s).

Early in 2024, following an application process, Moynalty LGFA received notice that they were chosen as one of 16 teams in the country to participate in a programme to promote Gaelic for girls in the area – leading to an increase in girls training and coaching opportunities for Gaelic enthusiasts in the area.

In 2024, Moynalty entered two teams to the LGFA Little Ladies League in Meath which resulted in very generous donations from individuals. Gerry Hennessy of Royal Safety and Alan Brogan Plastering, Claudia Mulligan and Sarah Smyth all kindly sponsored new jerseys and shorts for both teams.

Moynalty LGFA u-11s started off the season playing in the Spring/Summer series of the Little Ladies league and played a total of six matches against Gaeil Colmcille, Drumbaragh, Carnaross, Oldcastle, St Ultans and St Michael's.

They resumed in September with another four matches against, Gaeil Colmcille, Simonstown, Kilmainhamwood and Dee Rangers.

The u-9s started back training at the end of February, and participated in six rounds of the Spring/Summer league.

They took a small break in the summer and returned at the end of August, to participated in four rounds of the Autumn league.

Both teams showed great skills and resilience throughout the year and have shown significant progress in attacking, defending and scoring abilities.

the club want to express huge thanks to all of the coaches who helped with both teams across the year - Mattie Smyth, Ashling and Siobhan Cahill, Grainne Nevin and Marion Farrelly, Grainne Nevin, Siobhan Cahill, Mikey Smyth, Katie Smyth and Catherina Reilly.

These coaches have all proactively engaged in training opportunities to include safeguarding and the Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games.

The newly established female leadership programme by the LGFA which is underway provides coaches with opportunities to develop as coaches.

The coaches are making their ways through the coaching ranks with opportunity to start with introduction to coaching Gaelic games, level 1 and beyond. the future looks very bright for Moynalty LGFA.
