Tesco due to open north Navan store next month

Tesco has confirmed that its new store at Clonmagadden, Navan, is due to open on 13th February.

The supermarket unit is located at the entrance to the Cluain Adain development on the Clonmagadden Road on the north side of the town. The store will extend to almost 7,000 square feet and include an in-store bakery, coffee station and a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) machine.

Construction of the unit was recently completed and fit out is under way. Recruitment is ongoing and positions have been advertised on Tesco's jobs website. The closing date to apply for customer assistant roles in the store is 31st January.

A spokesperson for Tesco confirmed that the store is due to open within weeks. "Our new Tesco store in Clonmagadden, Navan is scheduled to open on 13th February. It will measure close to 7,000 square feet and will offer customers features such an in-store bakery, coffee station and a DRS machine. The new store will bring to 182, the total number of Tesco store’s across the country,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, work is also progressing on the medical centre which will include two new GP surgeries and a pharmacy.

Brian McCartan of McCartan's Pharmacy which holds the lease on the medical centre told that they hope to open at the beginning of April. He said work is progressing on the fit out of the pharmacy unit and and that two GPs will open separate surgeries on the first floor of the medical centre.

McCartan's Pharmacy group has 17 pharmacies mostly located across north Dublin. The opening of its pharmacy at Clonmagadden will be its 18th store.

The company has experience in developing medical centres in new residential areas and Brian said it has worked well in other areas such as Miller's Glen in Swords and Hansfield in the Ongar/Blanchardstown area where they have opened GP surgeries and pharmacies together.

There is another unit in the building which a lease has not yet been agreed on and according to Brian, it is hoped that it will be a coffee shop.

Newkey Homes, founded by Gibbstown native Ronan O'Reilly, is the developer of the commercial site in Cluain Adain, while the residential units are being developed by Glenveagh.
