Three men detained in connection with probe into sexual abuse and neglect of children and a vulnerable adult

Gardai in Meath have arrested three men as part of an investigation into the sexual abuse and neglect of children and a vulnerable adult.

The arrests took place following the search of a house in the county and the men, in their 30s, 40s and 50s were arrested yesterday morning (Monday).

They are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at various garda stations in the county.

The offences are suspected to have taken place within an extended family setting.

Gardai say the investigation has been ongoing for a number of years, but all of the alleged victims are in a place of safety and no one is currently in any danger.

It is believed that one of the men was arrested in relation to alleged sexual abuse, a second in relation to neglect and cruelty, and the third for withholding information.

The three men can be questioned for up to 24 hours before they must either be charged or released.

Gardaí have described the investigation, which is ongoing as “sensitive” and “complex”.
