Ferguson secures loan move

Evan Ferguson's long awaited temporary move away from Brighton and Hove Albion has finally been confirmed with West Ham United winning the race to sign the 20-year-old Bettystown man on loan for the rest of the season.

Ferguson will reunite with former Brighton boss Graham Potter, who replaced Julen Lopetegui at West Ham earlier this month.

Potter gave the Meath man his first team debut for Brighton in August 2021 when he came on in an EFL Cup game against Cardiff City.

He made his Premier League debut in February 2022, coming on in a 0-3 home loss to Burnley.

In December '22 Ferguson made his third Premier League appearance and scored off the bench in the 2-4 home loss to Arsenal. That goal made him Brighton and the Republic of Ireland's youngest ever Premier league goalscorer.

Three days later Ferguson started his first Premier league game, scoring in the 4-1 win away to Everton.

In April 2023 Ferguson signed a long term contract until 2028 with the Seagulls and scored 10 goals in 25 appearances in his first full season.

The 2023/'24 season started well with a goal against Luton Town in the opening game of the season and on 2nd September 2023 he scored a first career hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Newcastle.

He brought his season tally to six goals in November against Nottingham Forest, but that was his last goal for 11 months and injury hit and form deserted him.

His goal drought ended when he scored in the 2-2 draw with Wolves in October, but he couldn't force his way into Fabian Hurzeler's first team and will now join West Ham and hope to play more minutes.

The Hammers have been hit by injuries to key attackers Crysencio Summerville, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug all out injured.

"It feels good to be here. Seeing the stadium and being here today, I've got a very good feeling," Ferguson told West Ham TV.

"I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again.

"I want to come in and do my best for the Club, score goals, and see where we get to," concluded the Meath man.
