Extended opening hours for Nobber Library
New extended opening hours at Nobber Library have been welcomed in the local community with the facility now open four times a week, making it easier for everyone to enjoy all the library has to offer.
Meath County Council's Library Service recently introduced extended opening hours which will see the library open on Tuesday afternoons and evenings, Saturday mornings and all day on Wednesday and Thursday. The new schedule allows greater access, especially for those working during the day.
The library will be staffed by Martina Leahy, a Kingscourt native, who has been based in Navan and Oldcastle libraries previously. Martina said: “I’m looking forward to meeting borrowers old and new in the coming weeks and months. Nobber Library is such a beautiful space and I’m excited to be able to open the facility up to the community again.
“The introduction of an evening time opening on Tuesday allows people who are working during the day better access to the library. I’ve had really positive feedback about it already.”
She added: “If it’s been a while since anyone visited their local library then they might get a pleasant surprise – overdue fines are a thing of the past and we’re about much more than just books!”
In addition to its wide range of reading materials the library offers services free WiFi, public computers, and a self-service printing, photocopying and scanning facility.
"The printing service is brilliant - it's the place to go for returns labels and passport consent forms," explains Martina.
“We also have a sensory table, the ‘Magic Table’ and a collection of STEAM backpacks with fun activities for kids aged 3-6 years available in the branch.”
The ‘Magic Table’, is a sensory table which engages individuals with dementia and autism through interactive games. It can be used by individuals and groups.
Borrowers can also reserve items from the TTT collection, which includes toys, technology, and training resources to help children and adults with learning difficulties or disabilities.
Martina is sure the next few months will be busy. “We’ve got Ireland Reads on 22nd February, World Book Day is March 6th, Spring Into Storytime in April and then we will be heading for Summer Stars, our annual summer reading challenge.
“We’ll be in a much better position to offer local children access to Summer Stars, which aims to build on the work children have done during term time with activities and incentives throughout the summer break."
Nobber Library will also be involved in the 'Bookface' Facebook photo contest as part of Ireland Reads on 22nd February. All you need to do is snap a photo of yourself with a book in place of your face, to be in with a chance of winning a €25 book voucher. Martina will have books on hand for use as props for anyone who wants to take part.
Martina in encouraging locals to come along and see what the library has to offer and if you are not already a member, it's easy to join up.
“Library membership is free, so save yourself money and space at home and visit your local library today to get borrowing,” she said.
