Greenway car park plans progress in Kingscourt
Plans for a public car park in Kingscourt to serve the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway are currently being progressed by Cavan County Council.
The car park will be located at the old Kingscourt Railway Station at Corgarry, Kingscourt and other works as part of the scheme include gazebos with seating and a picnic area with benches, an access roadway, footpaths, lighting, signage, fencing and landscaping. Also proposed are two kiosks for bicycle service and rental. The plans are currently on public display and submissions can be made up to 6th March.
Meanwhile, it appears the pace of progress in providing a dedicated pedestrian/cycle link from the greenway to Kingscourt town continues to be slow.
Cavan County Council is working with the National Transport Authority (NTA) on the Kingscourt Town Permeability Link to the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway,
The key scheme objective is to provide a permeability link which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely travel between the Navan to Kingscourt Greenway and Kingscourt Town and help encourage visitors to travel to the town from the greenway. In November 2023, a questionnaire was conducted online and at that stage a study area had been set and a number of routes were being identified.
A preferred route has not yet been announced. However, it is understood that one of the options being looked at is build a walkway/cycleway to link the car park at the railway station to the local community centre. This would then in turn connect up with the pathway built two years ago linking the community centre with Dun na Rí Forest Park, thereby also providing access from the greenway to the forest park.
Separately, Mayor of Navan Eddie Fennessy has welcomed the progress of plans to improve connectivity of Navan to the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway via Blackwater Park.
“One of the most important aspects of this project is the cycle connection between the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway and the centre of Navan. The greenway has been a huge success, bringing countless numbers of people into the area. The bridge and cycle path it opens up, will entice more of them into Navan to visit, shop and more. The local economy will benefit from its construction which an added bonus.”
