Five cars stolen in one night including three from members of the same family

A SPATE of car thefts in Dunboyne village saw five cars stolen in one night including three from members of the same family.

A white Ford Focus, a white Peugeot van and a white Nissan van were all taken in the early hours of last Thursday morning, 20th February, from Dunboyne Castle estate. Two more vehicles were stolen from Lutterell Hall belonging to a husband and wife the same night. It is understood that one of the vehicles has been recovered but the other is still missing.

A resident of Dunboyne Castle told the Meath Chronicle how her husband's Nissan van was stolen, along with her father's Peugeot van and her sister's Ford Focus all from the estate.

It appears the culprits took the keys of the Ford Focus and the Peugeot van from her father's house across the road. Her father also had a spare key to her husband's van and they took this as well and made off with the van.

She told the Chronicle that her father's van was recovered after a garda pursuit and the suspects were caught but said the van was totally destroyed with the wheels busted and it had been crashed. Her husband's van is still missing and he has had to rent a car to get to and from work and her sister's car has not been found either.

The woman put out an appeal on the local Dunboyne Noticeboard Facebook page the day after the thefts for anyone had with CCTV footage of the culprits to get in touch. She said a lot of people did get in touch which helped them track the movements of the suspects who were in the estate from midnight until about 6am and that she was so grateful to everyone who got in touch.

She has also thanked Gardai for their work in apprehending the suspects who it is understood appeared in court but were subsequently released on bail.

Gardai have been contacted for comment.

Separately, in another theft, also in Dunboyne village last week, a blue Toyota Hilux GR sport with a 241 registration was stolen from the Main Street on Friday night. It is understood that this vehicle has since been recovered.
