‘Cars and Coffee’ event to support two local charities

A ‘Cars and Coffee’ event to raise funds for two local charities is taking place at Causey Farm at the end of March.

Athboy musician and car enthusiast Brian Mullen has organised the special day on 30th March in support of Meath Hospice Transport and SOSAD.

"I have a passion for classic cars and a passion for helping charities so I decided to merge the two together," said Brian.

"I'm doing a bit of a twist to my one because I'm adding in all vehicles, cars, lorries, tractors and motor bikes," he added.

"It's free entry and free teas and coffees will be available and people can make a donation on the day.

"Local musicians will be there to entertain and it is going to be a family event, it will be Mother's Day after all!"

It is hoped that funds will be raised to support Two vital local charities as Brian explains: "Meath Hospice Transport is a wonderful charity that a lot of people around Athboy and family members of mine would have availed of, it is a brilliant service that doesn't get government funding. SOSAD is struggling at the moment with funds and they are such an asset to the area that I felt we needed to do something to help them."

Brian says another reason he chose the charity was to honour the memory of his brother local funeral director, Tommy Mullen, of Mullen’s Funeral Directors whose untimely death in November 2023 left the community reeling.

"It was a massive shock to the community when Tommy died," said Brian.

"Tommy was so well known and so well liked with everybody around Athboy,"he added.

"He was just a massive, massive figure here in town and he was a great character."

"He was an unbelievably good natured man, the amount of stuff he did for people that nobody knew about. .

"He used to do a bit of music along with me in a two piece band that we had going for about 10 years.

"I'm sure he will be on everyone's thoughts on the day too."
