New era, new look, new venue for 2025 Meath Chronicle Community and Sports Awards
The Meath Chronicle Community & Sports Awards was officially launched this week with a new look, new venue and new focus.
Evolving from the Meath Chronicle Sports Awards – started more than 20 years ago and which has seen some of the biggest names in Irish sport recognised and honoured in their home county, May's renewal will feature a dedicated Community section aimed at recognising so many of our unsung heroes.
Continuing the new approach this year's Meath Chronicle Community & Sports Awards in partnership with Specsavers moves to an afternoon event in the Darnley Lodge Hotel in Athboy.
Bective Stud, Meath County Council, Meath Sports Partnership, Meta, Aura Leisure in Trim and Navan and Park Ri, Kells have all come on board to support this prestigious event.
Taking place on 22nd May the categories for the awards include: Carer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Community Group of the Year, while in Sport the categories include: Hall of Fame, Outstanding Achievement Award, Young Sports Star of the Year, Team of the Year.
Launching the awards in the Darnley Hotel, Meath Chronicle Editor, Gavan Becton said the occasion will provide an opportunity to "celebrate the achievements of the county's sporting stars and community heroes."
"From Business to Style to Sport to the Spirit of the Final Awards we give out at the Cumann na mBunscol finals each year, these occasions allow us to connect with the people making the headlines in our sports section. The new Community aspect of these awards allow us to honour those who may do so much away from the glare of photographers and the reporter’s pen."
"Of course, the awards would not be possible without the invaluable input of our sponsors. We are delighted that Specsavers continues to be a great supporter of our awards and are partnering with us for the 2025 Meath Chronicle Community & Sports Awards.
"We are also delighted that we can bring the awards to a new location and the Darnley Lodge in Athboy a town with its own strong community and sporting traditions.”
