Council chasing up leads on Trim dog park

Meath County Council has not yet identified a location or brought forward plans for a dog park in Trim and says research on similar facilities is ongoing.

Cllr Paul O'Rourke submitted a motion to last week's meeting of Trim MD calling for an update on what progress has been made on providing a dog park, what challenges, if any, have been identified and asked for a projected timeline for delivery. It follows a motion back in 2023 by party colleague Aisling Dempsey calling for a suitable location to be found for a dog park in Trim.

In a written response, the council said that research and information gathering on other similar facilities has been ongoing and this information is being reviewed in the context of the identification of a suitable location, management and oversight requirements and the potential for ongoing operational costs that may be incurred. It added that afurther update will be provided when this review has been completed.

Speaking afterwards, Cllr O'Rourke said: "A dog park has been a long-requested facility in Trim, and while it's positive that research is ongoing, the community is eager for real progress. Dog owners have waited years for a safe, dedicated space to exercise their pets, and it’s important that this doesn’t get delayed indefinitely. I will continue to push for a clear timeline and ensure this much-needed amenity is delivered for Trim."
