Athboy playground plans scrapped
Plans for a children's playground at the Fairgreen in Athboy have been scrapped.
At a special meeting of Kells Municipal Council this afternoon councillors voted to abandon the controversial project when they heard the Trustees of the Fairgreen would not give consent for the construction of the facility.
Councillors were told that the project was time sensitive and the funding that had been there for the playground would no longer be available and they would not be looking at an alternative location.
Cllr Eugene Cassidy proposed that they do not proceed as the Trustees had come out in a strong manner to say they wouldn't consent.
Cllr Sean Drew, who seconded the proposal, said that in future the council should look for written agreement for a project before spending time and money on an application.
