Death of former Meath camogie player, Marie Martin
Member of renowned Donnelly family of Kilmessan
The death occurred this morning of Marie Martin, Moattown, Kildalkey, a former Kilmessan and Meath camogie player who enjoyed championship success at club and county level.
A member of the Donnelly family of Kilmessan, well known for their achievements on the sporting pitches, she was one of seven Kilmessan players on the Meath team that beat Kildare to win the Leinster Junior Camogie Championship in 1965.
Daughter of Bill and Tess Donnelly of the renowned Kilmessan victuallers business, her brother, Dinny, captained Meath to win the Leinster senior football championship in 1964.
Her son, Tony Martin, is well-known in a different sporting field as a horse trainer who has enjoyed much success on the racecourse.
Aged 87, Marie passed away peacefully at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, this morning.
Predeceased by her husband, Jim and long term friend, Jo, her parents Bill and Tess, brother, Denis and sister-in-law, Bridget, Marie is survived by her family, Al, Tony, Cathy and Tara, grandchildren, Martin, Jamie, Beverley, Tommie, Kim, and Kelvin; the Donnelly family; extended family and many friends.
Marie is reposing in McEvoy’s Funeral Home Market Street, Trim, C15 PE00 on Saturday 5th April (5pm – 7pm), arriving at Kildalkey Church for 8pm. Funeral Mass on Sunday 6th April, 10am, followed by burial in Kilmessan Cemetery C15 XCX3 at 12 noon.
