Dunshaughlin Players to present Murphy's poignant emigration tale
'The Kings of Kilburn High Road' for Venue in Ratoath
Dunshaughlin Players present 'The Kings of the Kilburn High Road' By Jimmy Murphy, directed by Sharon Carroll at the Venue Theatre, Ratoath, from Thursday to Sunday, 10th to 13th April at 8pm.
Set in the mid 1970s, a group of young men left their homes in the west of Ireland, took the boat out of Dublin Bay and sailed across the sea to England in the hope of making their fortunes and returning home. Some 25 years later only one, Jackie Flavin, makes it home - but does so in a coffin.
The play takes place on the day that the winners and losers of the group meet up to drink to Flavin's memory and looks at their lives, lost dreams and their place in the new Ireland.
The production is a wonderful play full of humour and human sadness that remembers the "forgotten generation" of Irish men who emigrated to London.
The cast is Kieran Rushe, Greg Marks, Derek O'Brien, Anthony O'Boyle, and Eugene McCarthy. Director Sharon Carroll is well-known for her theatre worek around Navan.
This amateur production of 'The Kings of the Kilburn High Road' is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
