Bohermeen woman takes over as general manager at Tara Mines

Michelle Bennett is the new general manager for Boliden Tara Mines moving to the new role from her position as finance manager where she gained valuable leadership, knowledge and experience within the mining industry.

Michelle has an extensive background in corporate finance, Investor Relations and commercial finance and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway, is a fellow chartered accountant and holds an MBA from technologies University Dublin.

The Bohermeen woman said: “I'm pleased to take on the role as general manager of Tara. The last 18 months have been challenging for everyone at Tara, and I believe we are well placed to face the future together.

“Growing up in Navan, the importance of Tara to our employees, key stakeholders and the broader community has always been deeply ingrained in me. I look forward to working with the people of Tara to deliver safe and efficient production in line with our targets, to drive ahead with our exploration work on Tara Deep and to build for the future so that we can carry through the benefits of Tara to the community for generations to come.”

Michelle succeeds Gunnar Nystrom, who led Tara Mines through a difficult couple of years with the temporary closure of the mine and reduction in head count at the Knockumber site.

“We would like to recognise and sincerely thank Gunnar for his leadership and contribution through the most challenging of times for Tara Mines,” Boliden said in a statement.

Brenda Brady, will take up the role of acting finance manager on an interim basis.
