Seneschalstown Mothers and Others Big Apple Adventure

A THIRTY-SEVEN strong squad of Seneschalstown Mothers and Others have just returned from New York after taking part in a colourful blitz consisting of 250 players.

Manager of the Seneschalstown club, Laura Burke said: "Everyone got to know each other ahead of the blitz. It made it even better recognising the girls on the pitch Sunday."

The tournament which involved eight teams from Ireland and eight teams from the USA took place in Gaelic Park on Sunday, 12th November. Laura said:

"It was quite an emotional experience. Most of us never thought we'd play sport properly ever again and there we were in Gaelic Park. It was phenomenal."

Only together 18 months with members who had never played football before and decided to take on a new hobby, the Seneschalstown Ladies set a great example for their community. On behalf of all the members, Laura said: "We hope it teaches the younger kids that you can still play sport when you're older and have fun with it. We want to show them it's never too late to start playing sport or even get back into it."

With the ethos of Mothers and Others being non competitive, the Seneschalstown ladies knew exactly how to have some fun. Laura explained: "Everyone was encouraging each other, encouraging each team.

“We could have a laugh with each other and truly enjoy the experience. We also had Marty Morrissey doing commentator and it was great craic." She added: "The feedback from the ladies has been amazing. I was blown away by the response. We're expecting a few more people to join the Mothers and Others club in the new year."
