Funding boost for clubs and groups delivering walking programmes

Christmas has come early for sports clubs, community and disability groups who are planning on delivering walking programmes to their members and wider community in January with Meath Local Sports Partnership announcing their Community Walking fund 2024.

The fund is open for applications from sports clubs, community groups and disability services. To qualify for funding, clubs and groups must host a six-week walking programme commencing in the New Year. Clubs and communities already committed to the Ireland Lights Up campaign are eligible to apply for funding.

Una Pearson, Community Sports Development Officer with Meath LSP congratulated the sports clubs and groups who have already committed to delivering walking programmes in the New Year, saying “that programmes such as Ireland Lights Up are a lifeline for communities particularly in rural areas. Hopefully this funding will go in some small way to meeting the costs of lighting up walk ways and delivering the walking programme locally over those darker winter evenings”.
