'Full launch' of League of Ireland club in Meath on horizon

Moves to create a new League of Ireland club in Meath are continuing at pace with a "full launch" expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The main driving force behind the project is former FAI Chief Executive Bernard O'Byrne who is determined to push ahead with ambitious, daring plans to set up a League of Ireland club in the Royal County.

Byrne first indicated in 2022 that he felt the formation of a League of Ireland club in the Royal County was a realistic prospect with Athboy originally planned as the home base.

Woman dies and two young children injured in Enfield road crash

A woman has died and two children were seriously injured in a road crash on the Meath-Kildare border.

Gardaí said the woman, aged in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car she was driving was in collision with a van at around 6.15pm on the R148 at Cloncurry between Enfield and Kilcock.

They said two young children who were also travelling in the car have been taken to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin where their conditions were described on Tuesday night as serious but stable.

Summerhill strikes it lucky.... again!

A lucky National Lottery player who bought their ticket in Centra, Summerhill, scooped €100,000 in the Millionaire Raffle draw on New Year's Eve.

Geoff Scally who owns the Centra Store in Summerhill was delighted to hear the news and shocked to hear that another customer of his Meath store won big in the Millionaire Raffle draw.

“My phone call from the National Lottery on New Year’s Eve is almost becoming a tradition now! Two years ago, one of our customers won the top prize of €1 million in the Millionaire Raffle draw and now here we are and another customer has won big in the same draw with €100,000!"

Tara Mines determined to "reopen as soon as possible"

Tara Mines management has indicated its determination to reopen the mine as soon as possible.

Management intends to share a rescue plan with the Group of Unions in the coming week and will continue to engage with the unions at the Workplace Relations Commission starting next Tuesday the 9th January.

"With the support of the Boliden Group, we are determined to bring about a re-opening of the mine as soon as possible," said a spokesperson.

New house prices in Meath 'out of control' - Darren O'Rourke TD

New house prices in Meath are "out of control" according to Sinn Féin TD Darren O'Rourke.

O'Rourke who was responding to the latest Daft.ie house price report which shows that the average price of a new build home in Meath is €375,000 says the Government's failure to deliver affordable homes is "making the crisis worse"

"The Daft.ie report on house prices in Q4 2023 shows that the price of an average home continues to rise. Across the state the price of an average home rose 3.4% in the last 12 months to €320k. In Meath the average price of a home is now €324,740."
