Tobin elected Cathaoirleach of Ashbourne Municipal Council
Fine Gael's Cllr Alan Tobin was elected cathaoirleach of Ashbourne Municipal Council at today's annual meeting of the council.
It is the second year running Tobin has taken up the role and was previously chair of the Ashbourne district from 2019 to 2020.
Indepedent Cllr Amanda Smith was elected leas Cathaoirleach
Tobin received backing from party colleague Cllr Suzanne Jamal who was elected leas cathaoirleach of Meath County Council last Friday.
The Fine Gael Cllr also received support from Fianna Fail Cllr Conor Tormey and Cllr Amanda Smith.
Cllr Tobin says he was "delighted and honoured" to be elected and has a number of priorities for the year ahead.
"I want construction for the skate park under way by September and hopefully ready before the year is out and opening it up around April or May of next year would be absolutely fantastic," said Tobin.
"I want to ensure the completion of the R135 roadworks, we are coming up to the one year anniversary of them being ear marked for completion and they are not near completion so getting that done is a priority," he added.
It was a happier occasion for the Fine Gael Cllr today having spoken of being threatened with a hammer on the morning of his re election to Meath County Council.
