Fine Gael selects Minister Helen McEntee and Councillor Sharon Tolan to contest Meath East constituency in General Election

Minister Helen McEntee and Councillor Sharon Tolan have been selected by Fine Gael to represent the party in the Meath East constituency at the next General Election.

Party members selected Minister McEntee and Councillor Tolan tonight (Monday) in a convention held in the CityNorth Hotel, Gormanston which was chaired by Minister Neale Richmond TD.

Fine Gael have now chosen 36 General Election candidates in 23 constituencies.

Minister Helen McEntee said, “It is a great honour to have been selected to contest the upcoming General Election for Fine Gael in Meath East, alongside my good friend and hardworking colleague, Cllr Sharon Tolan.

“This is fourth time the members of Fine Gael have placed their trust in me to contest a General Election, and I am extremely grateful to them for their unwavering support over the years.

“It has been a real privilege to serve the people of Meath East in Dáil Éireann for the last 11 years. They know they can count on me to work night and day for them in Meath, and I look forward to asking them for their vote again whenever the General Election comes.

“The Fine Gael organisation in Meath East is more than ready for that Election. We have a really dynamic team who will leave no stone unturned in helping Sharon and I as we work to secure two seats for Fine Gael in this constituency in the next Election.”

Councillor Sharon Tolan said, “I am delighted to have been selected this evening to contest the General Election for Fine Gael in Meath East.

“I want to express my gratitude to the members for putting their faith in myself and Minister McEntee. An all-female ticket for Fine Gael in Meath East is fantastic, as increasing female participation in politics has always been something I advocate for.

“Having topped the poll in the recent local elections, I have shown myself to be a proven vote getter and I believe Fine Gael can win two seats in this constituency.

“Affordable housing is a major priority for me, along with ensuring there are local jobs, and improved public transport for the people of Meath East.

“I know that with my experience as a Councillor for 10 years, and as current Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, I can be a positive, effective, and hardworking TD for our constituency, and I look forward to the campaign ahead.
