Residents seeking traffic calming measures at new Dunboyne school

Residents of the Dunboyne Castle estate have called on Meath Co Council to provide a pedestrian crossing and traffic calming measures following the opening of the new primary school and GAA facilities in the area.

Iwan Brandsma, a member of the Dunboyne Castle Residents Traffic Sub Committee said residents are concerned about road safety, "in particular now that both the new school and the new GAA academy pitches will generate a lot of underage and unsupervised pedestrian traffic."

"We have a wonderful new school with a great principal and new GAA facilities. We have been campaigning for traffic calming measures for a long time but our appeals appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

"The road has become a 30km zone, like many others across the county, but there is just one little sign. We have asked for more signs but again it appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

"We were delighted to see the lovely wide footpath outside the school - they did a great job - and we thought the council would provide a pedestrian crossing, but nothing.

"It is a very busy road, with vehicles and with pedestrians. We really need traffic calming and a pedestrian crossing," he said.

Meath County council has been approached for comment.
