Survey plan to help improve pedestrian safety at roundabout

Meath County Council is to investigate pedestrian survey options at the Andy Connolly Roundabout in Navan, a meeting of Navan Municipal Council heard last week.

Cllr Linda Nelson Murray had called on the Council to complete a survey at the roundabout with a view to improving safety for pedestrians as well as traffic coming from Mullaghboy Industrial Estate, Moatlands and St Patrick’s Park and travelling to Navan Retail Park, with particular emphasis on the service users of the National Learning Network.

She said that when people come out of Mullaghboy, it is very dangerous to try get over to the retail park.

"A lot of people use that junction including people from the National Learning Network. There is a pedestrian crossing within Mullaghboy, but when you leave the industrial park, you have to cross at Clogherboy, then the road to St Pat’s and Bohermeen to get to the retail park."

Cllr Eddie Fennessy agreed that something was needed to improve safety there. He said he had walked it with the engineer and members of the National Learning Network two years ago.

Members were told Meath County Council will investigate pedestrian options at the Andy Connolly roundabout including liaison with the National Learning . A new pedestrian crossing will shortly be operational a the new residential development.
