Meath West FG to select election candidate tonight

Fine Gael will select its candidate for the general election in Meath West at a selection convention tonight (Wednesday) in the Newgrange Hotel.

Three local representatives are in the running for the Fine Gael nomination, sitting TD, Deputy Damien English and Cllrs Yemi Adenuga and Linda Nelson Murray.

Cllr Joe Fox had also been proposed but has withdrawn from the contest.

Speculation has been rife as to whether outgoing TD and former Minister Damien English intends to run. Deputy English hasn't indicated whether or not he will accept the party's nomination, despite repeated approaches by the Meath Chronicle.

The convention has originally been due to take place on Monday night of last week, but was was postponed because of a clash with similar events across the country.
