BREAKING: Brennan set to be announced as new Meath football manager

The search for a new Meath senior football manager to replace Colm O'Rourke is over with Robbie Brennan set to be announced as the man in charge for a three year term.

Clubs in Meath were notified this evening that the County Management Committee would propose the former St Peter's Dunboyne player and current Kilmacud Crokes manager as the new Meath boss with Monaghan's Martin Corey and Tyrone's Joe McMahon as his assistants.

Speculation was rife throughout Tuesday that Lar Wall's proposed management team of Cathal O Bric and Donegal All-Ireland SFC winner Mark McHugh would win the proposal, but tonight's communication to the clubs puts that rumour to bed.

Clubs have been asked to respond to the County Committee before 1pm tomorrow (Thursday) if they have any issues about the proposal.

The email to the club's concluded by say the proposal will be formally approved at the next Co Committee meeting.

Brennan was touted as O'Rourke's most likely successor after the outgoing manager made it clear he would not be seeking a third year in charge.

Brennan, who is currently in charge of four-in-a-row chasing Dublin SFC champions Kilmacud Crokes, lives in Dunboyne and won a Keegan Cup with the St Peter's club in 2005. He also guided the Stillorgan club to the All-Ireland SFC club title in 2023.

He was named as part of Bernard Flynn's short-lived u-20 management team in 2021.

It was expected that Flynn would also be part of Brennan's proposed management team, but there was no mention of the two-time Meath All-Ireland winner on the Co Committee email to the clubs.
