Meath woman in brown bread baking final

Kentstown woman Mary Rose Power has made it to the final of in the National Brown Bread Baking Competition final taking place today at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois.

After two days of semi-finals, today sees four competitors put their brown bread baking skills to the test in the hope of being crowned the winner.

Mary Rose is up against Martin Malone from Dublin, Rose Egan from Offaly, and Noreen Collins from Cork .

Baking got underway at midday and the winners will be announced at 3pm in the National Brown Bread Baking Competition, supported by Euronics in association with the National Ploughing Association and the Irish Country Women’s Association.

Judges Eleanor Martin from NEFF, Thelma Burke from the ICA and the 1973 winner Eileen Brennan from the NPA will be tasked with choosing which brown bread has risen to the top of the competition.

The winning brown bread baker will walk away with a cash prize of €5,000 and a NEFF Slide & Hide oven, with the three finalists all walking away with a €500 Euronics gift card.
