Meath Camogie on the hunt for new manager following resignation of Cole and Maloney

Gary Cole and Thomas Maloney have informed the Meath Camogie Committee that they will not be continuing on in the role of joint managers of Meath for the 2025 season.

Tom Gannon reports

Their coaching staff including Neil Heffernan and Conor Darby will also be stepping down from their roles with the side. It is believed that Maloney's current commitments to the Roscommon hurlers played a factor in the management's decision not to seek another term.

Cole and Maloney took over as joint managers after Gary's brother Neil stepped aside last February for medical reasons.

A high turnover of players meant that Cole and Maloney were always going to find it tough to emulate the exploits of the side that got to the All-Ireland Intermediate final in 2023.

A solid league campaign saw Meath finish third in the 2024 Div 2A NCL and just miss out on a place in the final.

Meath kicked off their All Ireland Intermediate campaign with two fantastic wins over Kildare and Carlow before being heavily beaten by Dublin in their third group stage match.

Meath bounced back with a comfortable victory over Antrim but a defeat at the hands of Kilkenny meant that Meath needed to beat Kerry in their final group game to secure a place in the quarter-final.

Ciary Foley and Amy Gaffney's combined tally of 2-6 helped Meath secure a four-point victory over Kerry to advance to the quarter-final. Alas, a promising campaign came to an end after Offaly defeated Meath at Thurles in July.

Meath will be hopeful of finding a manager who can build upon the foundations built this year by Cole and Maloney. However, at this present time, the Meath Chronicle are not aware of any potential candidates for the role.
