SVP Navan launches new volunteer recruitment drive

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP) in Navan are organising a pop-up recruitment drive at the Navan Town Centre on Saturday 5th October.

Michelle Finnegan, the SVP Navan Area president explains: “The characteristics required of our volunteers include; kindness, compassion, discretion, respect and being non-judgemental.

“Volunteers are our greatest strength, they know the issues in their communities and can address immediate needs as well as helping families and individuals, young and old, move towards self-sufficiency and equal opportunity through friendship and support.

“Offering a little help at the right time can give people hope for the future. Volunteers sharing their time and skills can change lives forever.

Home visitation to families, carried out in strict confidence, is the core work of the Society. T

hrough person-to-person contact, the SVP is committed to respecting the dignity of those they assist and fostering self-respect.

They assure confidentiality at all times and endeavor to establish relationships based on trust and friendship.

She added: “Volunteers for visitation work with SVP will receive training and the time commitment, while variable, is usually three to five hours weekly.”

Other than visitation volunteers are also required by SVP in the Vincent’s Shop on Brews Hill and the Furniture Shop on the Kells Road.

The role as a volunteer in the shops, is to carry out or assist in general shop duties and to ensure customers are the priority at all times through the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Volunteering with SVP involves working with and supporting the largest and oldest voluntary charitable organisation in Ireland. The Society has been in Ireland for 180 years working with a diverse range of people who experience poverty and exclusion.

The Society operates in a non-judgmental and on the basis that that the only criteria for help is need.

It has over 13,000 members and volunteers operating through 1,200 local Conferences through the country and It is involved in a diverse range of activities characterised bys upport and friendship, promoting self-sufficiency and working for social Justice.
