VIDEO: Oh deer, it's coming right for us... Driver and daughter encounter giant stag roaming the roads

A car driver and his daughter had a close encounter with a giant stag on a rural Meath road last night, (Friday 4th October).

Meath Chronicle editor, Gavan Becton was bringing his daughter Cayla, home from work in Navan when they spotted the beautiful beast roaming the roads between Ardbraccan and Bohermeen.

The stag is seen wandering up through the road and even tries to get into a garden in a bid to find cover.

The majestic stag then decides to change direction and run straight at the car with Cayla (18), shouting 'Dad, Dad, Dad' as the animal, that can weigh up to 70kgs, charges in the father and daughter's direction.

Thankfully, it changed course at the last second and leapt past the car and into the darkness.

"It was around 11.30pm, we had actually just seen a fox dart across the road seconds earlier," said Gavan. "He was just stood in the road but the car lights obviously unsettled him and he started looking for cover. We just tried to keep a distance, put hazards on and hoped nothing was coming the other way.

"I know there are deer up around Jamestown Bog, which isn't too far from where this fella was, but he certainly seemed a bit lost."

"When he changed direction at the last minute and came at us, I was thinking this could be big trouble, luckily he thought so too and jumped off to the side.
