Two men die in separate road incidents

Two men have died in separate road incidents as Gardai urge road users to take extra care over the October Bank Holiday weekend.

In Sligo, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at Drimina, Tubbercurry in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, 26th October 2024.

The single-vehicle collision, involving a car, occurred at approximately 3.45am on the R294.

The driver of the car, a man (20s), was fatally injured.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

The road is currently being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and remains closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 2am and 4am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Meanwhile a male pedestrian aged in his 50s died following an incident in the centre of Dublin yesterday.

Shortly after 3pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian at the junction of Arran Quay and Church Street.

The pedestrian, a male in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have conducted a technical examination of the scene and the road has now fully reopened to traffic.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Anyone with mobile phone footage or dash-cam recordings from the area at the time is requested to share this footage with investigating Gardaí.
