French urges council to keep pressure on OPW for Trim visitor centre progress

Meath County Council is to write to the Office of Public Works seeking an update on the plans for the proposed new visitor centre development at Trim Castle. Cllr Noel French raised the matter and asked that the council write to the OPW for an update.

"It is something we need to keep chasing, as a council. We are completely supportive of it and we need to ask for an update".

The plans for a major upgrade of the Market House have already gone through the planning process but no announcement on funding or further progress have yet been made.

The ambitious plan will see the Market House building conserved, refurbished and extended to provide a state-of-the-art visitor centre.

Central to the plan is the removal of the old dance hall along with the fly tower to open up views of the castle from the street. A modern extension of 200sqm with a roof terrace is also to be added to the rear of the building.
