You'll travel far to find a better Halloween costume than this Navan lad's effort

A YOUNG Halloween loving boy has been cleared for take-off after dressing up as his own passport.

Alfie Nelson (11) from Skyrne has no excuse to ever leave his passport at home anymore because he can wear it to the airport.

Alfie beams out of his picture in the passport which can be opened from the inside with a lever.

The costume which took a few hours to make was the brainchild of his dad, well-known painter and decorator Gary who also loves the spooky season.

"I started loving Halloween in my adult years and used to dress up for parties when I was socialising," he said.

"Now Alfie has the bug! When he was younger, he used to dress up as skeletons and monsters but now he loves making creative costumes with me and once you start, that's it.

"One year he was a paint swash or a colour card and last year, we dressed him as a bag of McDonald's chips."

The idea for the passport, which is an exact replica of Alfie's real Irish one, came from a similar costume that Gary once wore himself.

"I once went to a party as a driving licence and Alfie is too young for one of them so we thought we would try a passport.

"It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears,"he laughed.

"It was about five hours work. We got the pages printed out in a bigger size and stuck them onto the cardboard and went from there."

"Alfie got a lot a reaction and applause in the line-up at school. The standard though each year is getting higher and higher. We are going to have to pull out all the stops next year."

Gary also has a three year old daughter Willow but says he will wait until she is a bit bigger to start getting creative with her Halloween outfits.
