New bus servicing north Meath villages
The north Meath villages of Crossakiel, Ballinlough and Drumbaragh have a new bus service, following the recent rerouting of the 187 Kells to Ballyjamesduff bus.
Route 187, Kells to Ballyjamesduff will now provide six daily trips, seven days a week offering a Sunday service for the very first time. The improved service will provide greater connectivity for passengers with the first service departing Kells daily at 6am and the last service at 22.10pm.
Councillor Mike Bray has welcomed the rerouting of the bus through the villages of Crossakiel, Ballinlough and Drumbaragh.
“This new bus route is a great service for the local communities of Crossakiel, Ballinlough and Drumbaragh,” said Cllr Bray.
"I have been advocating for a bus service for this area on behalf of local residents for a number of years and tabled a motion on this very matter during the County Development Plan process.
“This route allows a regular daily connection from these rural areas to the towns of Kells, Oldcastle, Virginia and Ballyjamesduff.
“It also enables users to access the 109 services from Kells to Dublin city centre, Navan and the airport.
“This new route for the 187 will be of huge benefit to commuters, students, those going shopping or to medical appointments and well as those going to meet friends or family.
“Connectivity with rural services like the new 187 route is a benefit to the local economy and most importantly provides a vital affordable connection to urban centres for all in rural areas.
“We need to see more services like this in rural Meath and I will continue to press the authorities to further expand the rural bus network,” concluded Cllr Bray.
