Wall bags hat-trick as Roos' advance to Grand Final
Dunboyne and Meath's Vikki Wall grabbed a hat-trick of goals in 36-degree heat in IKON Park Melbourne as North Melbourne cruised into the AFLW Grand Final next week with a resounding 78-21 victory over Port Adelaide this morning.
After missing out on last year's final appearance for the Kangaroos because of her bid to make the Ireland Rugby 7s team for the Paris Olympics, Wall returned to Australia for the AFLW season and this morning's hat-trick once again underlined her importance to the team.
North Melbourne will host Brisbane in next Saturday night's (Sunday morning Irish time) Grand Final.
North Melbourne outscored Port Adelaide by 12 goals to two as they dominated the opening quarter and led 26-0.
By the end of the opening half they stretched that lead to 52-2.
Wall bagged her first two goals in the third quarter as the Roos led 71-7 at the three-quarters mark and she completed her hat-tick in the closing quarter.
Wall was involved in the opening score of the contest as she won a brilliant chest mark before delivering a perfect pass from 50-metres into Jasmine Garner on the goal line and the Roos' attacker couldn't miss.
The Meath players first goal came with 8:55 left in the third quarter and made the score 59-4 and 20 seconds later, straight from the restart, the ball was worked into her where she had acres of space to tap through her second to make it 65-4.
Her third goal was the best of the lot as she kicked from outside the 50 and with one bounce the ball went through the posts for the closing goal of North Melbourne's emphatic victory.
