Old Cornmarket works due to wrap up by mid December

The current work at the Old Cornmarket in Navan are expected to be complete by 16th December local businesses have been informed by the council

The works include the installation of reinforced concrete foundations and new granite paving. The contractor plans to complete the section of paving from the archway at Trimgate Street to Gloss Hair and Beauty Salon, before continuing with the works on the laneway towards Earls Kitchen. The installation of new utilities, including a section of new watermains, will be completed as part of the ongoing works, which are expected to continue up until the week beginning the 16th of December.

In the New Year, it is intended that the works will re-commence with the installation of new services past Earls Kitchen as far as the laneway access to the Central, with paving related works to follow. From there, the works will continue towards Church Hill.

Meanwhile, works are continuing in the Fairgreen car park at the southern end, with new concrete kerbing and new tree pits completed adjacent to the Circular Road retaining wall. Following recent vegetation removal, works to re-build and to re-point the stone retaining wall to the car park is to continue.

Businesses have been told that during the coming weeks, the contractor intends for the works in the lower car park to be focused on completing the new section of retaining wall and drainage at the location of the steps access to Circular Road, the completion of kerbing and to complete the surfacing works to the lower car park area (week of the 9th of December) and to reopen the area to parking. Kerbing works to the small plaza area at the junction with Circular Road are also to commence, with the installation of the new granite kerbing to be completed in advance of car park surfacing works.

Works to upgrade the watermains on Fairgreen are to continue.

It is not currently anticipated that any temporary traffic management measures will be necessary on Fairgreen or Church Hill for the month of December.
