Man killed in house fire named

The man killed in a house fire in Virginia last night has been named as Charlie Morgan from Drumina.

Gardaí and members of the fire service responded to the fire last night (December 19) at approximately 10pm.

The body Mr Morgan, aged in his 80s, was discovered at the scene. Death was pronounced a short time later.

Investigating Gardaí have preserved the scene as they work towards establishing the cause of the fire.

The body was removed to Cavan Mortuary for post mortem examination.

Results of the post mortem and a technical examination of the scene will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

“Unfortunately a male occupant in the house in his eighties was found to be deceased on the arrival of those services at the scene," Superintendent for Cavan John Callanan confirmed.

“The scene was preserved as a matter of procedure but it’s not believed there’s any suspicious circumstances at this time.”

Charlie was predeceased by his parents Paddy and Ellen, his brothers Owen and Philip, his sister Sr Aloysius (Mary) and his nephew Gary.

He is deeply regretted by his sister-in-law Josie; his nephews Philip, Killian and Dylan; his wonderful kind neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The community is mourning his loss. The Virginia Pages community noticeboard posted today: "Our thoughts are with Charlie’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in Peace, Charlie Morgan."

Matthews Funeral Directors also posted details of Charlie's funeral.
