End of season celebrations for NEFL

AWARDS Manager of the Year award for Oldcastle's Alan McCann

The Ardboyne Hotel was the place to be last week as over 280 people packed into the Boyne Suite for the NEFL Annual Awards night where everyone tucked into a beautiful meal followed by the awards ceremony and then danced until late into Sunday morning.

Large numbers from Oldcastle United (50), Cootehill Harps (45), Robinstown (25), Duleek AFC (30), Albion Rovers (22), Athboy Celtic (28), Bellurgan United (19), Carrick Rovers (25) to name a few ensured a great atmosphere.

Before the meals began, the winners from all the competitions were introduced to the crowd to the song 'Freed from Desire' as the players carried the trophies into the room.

Throughout the night the NEFL PRO Tommy Melia showcased all the goals and photos from the season on the big screen.

All the sponsors were thanked with UHY Farrelly Dawe White, PM Blinds & Shutters, Superior Racking & Shelving LTD represented on the night, while there were apologies from O’Neills Sportswear and Conrad Clinton The Flooring Specialists.

The Club of the Month awards and an O’Neills voucher worth €300 were presented to Oldcastle Utd, Carrick Rovers, Duleek AFC, Cootehill Harps, Navan Town Cosmos, Trim Celtic, Bellurgan Utd, Parkvilla and Trim Town.

The Manager of the Year went to Alan McCann from Oldcastle United after he guided his team to the Div 3 league title, the Fiacra O’Neill Shield and the Gerry Reilly Cup in his first year as manager.

Referee of the Year went to Jason Sheerin from the ISRS Meath Branch.

The Hall of Fame award went to Pat O’Brien from Duleek AFC, the second recipient of the award following Gerry Gorman last season.

Pat has been at the club since the 1970s and has held many roles within his club including chairman, secretary, treasurer and groundsmen.

His work behind the scenes has transformed his club with a clubhouse, astro pitch and new development pitch has just begun. His wife Carmel has supported him throughout his long spell with the club.

The 2024 Club of the Year award went to Carrick Rovers following their successful season where they captured the Premier Division.

The Women's Div 1 Player of the Year award went to Athboy Celtic's Karen Larkin.

Oldcastle's CJ Healy won the Div 3 Player of the Year with Trim Celtic's Marcus Bailey and Duleek's Dylan O'Boyle winning the Div 2 and Div 1 Player of the Year accolades respectively, while the Premier Player of the Year was claimed by Kentstown Rovers' Leonardo Mendez.
