St Michael's emerge victorious over Blackhall
St Michael's produced a solid second-half performance to seal the win
St. Michael's 1-14
Blackhall Gaels 1-9
St. Michaels sealed the win in this re-fixed Corn na Boinne game in Batterstown on Tuesday. The eventual winners started brightly with points from Oran Meehan and Paddy Fitzsimons.
Blackhall Gaels then settled into the contest and with the wind at their backs they built up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead before the referee's half-time whistle.
St. Michael's got off to a good start in the second-half as Gearóid O'Malley and Brian O'Reilly both split the uprights before Blackhall Gaels found the back of the net to extend their advantage.
O'Malley made good use of the new rules and sent over a couple of two-pointers from frees. Meehan kept the scoreboard ticking over before O'Malley provided the levelling score.
In the closing stages, David Lynch's speculative ball wasn't dealt with by the Blackhall Gaels defence and Matt Moriarty reacted quickest to find the net in what proved to be the decisive score. Lynch then added a two-pointer which sealed the win.
