Kells man killed in Westmeath quad bike collision

The victim of Saturday's fatal quad bike accident in Co Westmeath has been named as Dean Wearen from Kells.

Dean, who was in his twenties and from Magdalene Court in the town, died after the quad bike he was driving was in collision with a motorcycle near Finea, Co Westmeath.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision which occurred at around 3.30pm on Saturday, 22nd February, at Ballynascarry, Finea, Co Westmeath.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

The driver of quad bike, aged in his 20s was fatally injured in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary in Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar for a post mortem examination

The male passenger of the quad bike, aged in his 20s was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 20s was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and remains in critical condition.

The road was closed for a time for a technical examination to be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Ballynascarry, Finea between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
