Duleek Family Share Journey as part of Same Chance Walk for Autism

To mark World Autism Month this April, AsIAm, Ireland’s Autism Charity, and PTSB are calling on communities in Meath to come together in support of Autistic people by taking part in the annual Same Chance Walk for Autism.

This year’s walk is set to be bigger than ever, with new locations in the East and West of Ireland. Proudly supported by PTSB, the Same Chance Walk aims to promote inclusion and raise vital funds for AsIAm’s work supporting Autistic people and their families. On Saturday, 5th April, walks will take place at Malahide Castle, Co. Dublin, and Lough Key Forest Park, Co. Roscommon. Those unable to attend are encouraged to organise their own walks within their local communities.

Among the many families stepping up for inclusion is the Kidd family from Duleek, Co. Meath. Amy Kidd is keen advocate for the Autistic community and enjoys working directly with Autistic people to ensure they are treated and viewed as equal members of society. Amy is a mammy of an Autistic child (Luke aged 5) so has both professional and personal experience regarding the struggles and implications that families in Ireland face with accessing appropriate services and therapies for their children. Luke attended the launch of the Same Chance Walk alongside this year’s Same Chance Walk Ambassador is Eric Roberts, a presenter and social media personality.

Eric is a former Special Needs Assistant (SNA) and has a deep personal connection to Autism advocacy, inspired by his nephew, Oisín. Through his platform, he authentically shares the joys and challenges of Autism, making him a powerful voice for inclusion. Eric Roberts, Same Chance Walk Ambassador, said: “Being named the Same Chance Walk Ambassador is a huge honour for me. My passion for Autism awareness started with my nephew Oisín, and my experience as an SNA only reinforced the need for better support and understanding. This walk is about ensuring that everyone has the same chance in life. I encourage families across Ireland, including those in Meath, to come out and walk together for inclusion.”

The Same Chance Walk events in Malahide Castle and Lough Key Forest Park will feature family-friendly fun and games, with refreshments available on-site. These walks are a powerful way to raise awareness while directly supporting services that provide crucial assistance to Autistic children, teens, and adults across Ireland.
