Badly needed GP practices to open in Navan within weeks
Doctors’ surgeries will be located in new medical centre at Cluain Adain, Clonmagadden
Two new GP practices are due to open in north Navan in around six weeks time in the new medical centre building at Cluain Adain, Clonmagadden. Negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage with the GPs while an opening date of 1st May is anticipated.
With most GP practices in the area no longer taking on new patients as their books are full, several people who have moved into the area are having to travel to their old GP to avail of services.
News of the new doctors surgeries is being widely welcomed and there have been several posts on local social media pages from people enquiring how they can get registered with the new GPs.
The doctors' surgeries will be located on the first floor of the medical centre building and there will be a pharmacy downstairs, which will be a McCartan's Pharmacy. Brian McCartan of McCartan's Pharmacy group has taken on the medical centre unit and confirmed that negotiations are at an advanced stage with the GPs. He outlined that there will be two separate practices, each with two GPs so there will be four doctors in total. The names of the GPs opening the new surgeries have not yet been announced as the paperwork is still being finalised.
McCartan's Pharmacy group was established in 2000 and has 17 pharmacies mostly across north Dublin. The opening of its pharmacy at Clongmagadden will be its 18th store.
There is another ground floor unit in the building but a lease has not yet been agreed on this. Brian said there has been a lot of interest with expressions of interest in opening coffee shops, a bakery, a hair salon and nail salon and that they are currently looking at all interested parties.
Last month, Tesco opened a new 7,000 square feet supermarket on the commercial site at Cluain Adain, creating 23 new jobs. The supermarket, which has an instore bakery, coffee machine and DRS machine, opened on 13th February.
Newkey Homes, owned by Gibbstown native Ronan O'Reilly is the developer of the commercial site in Cluain Adain, while the residential units are being developed by Glenveagh.
