St Louis NS Rathkenny marked a significant milestone on 28th March as the school celebrated 120 years since its establishment in 1905. The school hosted a vibrant community celebration, bringing together past and present pupils, staff, and local residents to honour its rich history.
The event featured an impressive display of memorabilia, including sporting awards, historic photographs, and even school roll books dating back to as far as 1866.
Documents highlighting the introduction of Irish as an official subject, school inspection reports from 1912 and 'Teacher Rules' from the 1920's were among the items on display.
“These artefacts offered a glimpse into the school’s storied past, underscoring the deep roots it has within the community. The celebrations were a reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of such a long-standing legacy,” said acting principal Sarah Flanagan.
“The archives event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the school’s journey and the generations it has served. As the school looks to the future, the occasion was a moment to reflect on how the traditions and values that began over a century ago continue to shape the community today.
“We hope to welcome many more generations of students through our doors,” she added.
