Galway Plate for Gordon Elliott again: two-in-a-row

Another big race win for top Meath trainer Gordon Elliott who this evening landed the feature race on day three of the  Galway Festival, the tote.com Galway Plate Handicap Chase.

Borice and Luke Dempsey found a bit extra on the run from the last to score by over three lengths from the top weight  Black Corton with Bryony Frost on board.

It was a third Galway Plate in four years for Elliott who took the opener on Monday to get his Festival off to a good start.

Borice was previously trained in France and had a first outing for Elliott in Leopardstown last December before winning  a couple of four-runner races at Uttoxeter (three finished) and Perth (both novice hurdles).

“He was sent over to us by Simon (Munir) and Isaac (Souede) and the plan was to go for good, big staying chases," said the Summerhill man.

"I fancied him in the Paddy Power last year, but I’d say he hadn’t filled into himself after coming from France and maybe I  ran him a bit soon," he added..

Elliott had eight runners at Galway and five at Perth - two winners, a second and a third in Scotland. 

Meath trainers Gavin Cromwell and Tony Martin were also on the mark with Robbie Colgan partnering the John Breslin-owned Upgraded to victory on the flat in the concluding handicap.
