Meath on verge of promotion
Despite playing with 14 men for 20 minutes Meath are on the verge of promotion to NFL Div 1 following today's 1-12 to 1-7 victory over Clare in Ennis.
The Royals can afford to lose to Fermanagh next Sunday in Pairc Tailteann by nine points or less and still secure promotion.
It didn't look like being that way for Meath at half-time as Clare bagged a crucial goal from Sean O'Donoghue which left them just 1-4 to 0-8 behind at the break and with a strong wind to aid them in the second half.
However, after the resumption Meath produced a counter-attacking masterclass as Graham Reilly changed the game in the Royals favour.
With Shane Gallagher returning from the sin bin three minutes after the break, Meath quickly lost Bryan Menton to a black card five minutes later, but it mattered little as Reilly palmed a goal after a brilliant team move and Conor McGill marshalled his defence superbly to ensure Meath stand on the verge of a return to NFL Div 1 for the first time since 2006.
