Ashbourne serve up try-fest as they steamroll Dundalk
One week after shipping a heavy defeat to Enniscorthy, Ashbourne served up a try-fest as they defeated Dundalk 53-15 in the Leinster League Div 1A at Milltown today.
The result also earned Ashbourne their first piece of silverware of the season as the contest doubled as the McGowan Cup final.
Andrew Whittaker and Mark Rooney both ran in two tries apiece for Ashbourne while Simon Deevy, Kelan Toolan, Conor Hurley, Matt Connolly also got touchdowns.
This was dream performance from Scott Broughton's side particularly in the second-half which they dominated with controlled disciplined rugby.
Ashbourne led 22-15 at the break and despite playing against a strong breeze Ashbourne never gave Dundalk a chance as they dominated the ball to rack up their huge scores.
As well as the tryscorers captain Gavin Kennedy added on points from four conversions - and a penalty - with Toolan also tagging on the extras for the late try.
The result will only serve to boost the morale of Ashbourne ahead of the All-Ireland Junior Cup final on Saturday 26th January.
