WATCH: Media Briefing following massive Meath drugs seizure

Gardai now believe the drugs seized in an intelligence led operation of the Meath Divisional Unit had a street value of approximately €3.8m.

Gardaí seized the drugs and arrested a man following an operation in Stamullen yesterday. A media briefing was held by Gardai in Kells at lunchtime today where a sample of the drugs were put on display. First reports had indicated the haul could have worth as much as €5.3m. 

Among the drugs seized during a search of the house, vehicles and lands in Stamullen, Gardaí discovered a significant quantity of cannabis resin, cannabis herb and MDMA tablets. 

At a media briefing at Kells Garda station earlier Chief Supt Fergus Healy said: 'Gardai had arrived at the house on foot of district court warrants and while conducting searches, a significant amount of drugs was seized under supervision of the Meath Divisional Drugs unit led by Det Inspector Gordon Englishby. 

 

'In that drugs seizure we are talking about a significant quantity of cannabis herb, cannabis resin and MDMA, approximately €3.8m worth of drugs.'

An Irish national aged his early thirities and from the North East of the country was arrested and and was being questioned at Kells Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
